Biological Sciences BS/PharmD - Program Requirements

1. Earn minimum grade point averages
• Prerequisite science and math GPA 3.300
• Overall GPA 3.300
  
• A minimum GPA of 2.000 following the completion of BIO 200, BIO 201, BIO 303 and BIO 305 is required for retention in the Biological Sciences major.
  
• Each Pharmacy PharmD prerequisite course must be successfully completed with a grade equal to, or greater than, C (2.000)
  
2. Submit an application through the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS) during the fall of the junior year, no later than October 1.
3. The Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) is required for applicants with a GPA of less than 3.000. The PCAT is waived for candidates who meet the minimum GPA of 3.300 and higher. It is highly recommended for all other candidates.
4. Upon invitation, complete a formal interview.
5. Selection is based on scholastic achievement, aptitude, personal qualifications, and evidence of motivation toward pharmacy. In addition to intellectual and academic competence, the Admissions Committee considers communication skills, leadership ability, community service, health care-related or research experience, and motivation for pursuing a career in pharmacy.

It is important that students consult their academic advisors when making decisions related to their academic progress. Students should declare their interest in this degree program as early as possible.

SUNY Seamless Transfer is a SUNY-wide program intended to make transferring to UB and other SUNY Schools simple and efficient for SUNY students. SUNY has defined courses that SUNY students can take before transferring which will apply to the major at UB and ensure timely graduation.

NOTE: The UB Curriculum course BIO 387 Communicating in Biological Sciences can not be used as elective credit towards the BS/PharmD.

The department will consider applications from BS/PharmD students to the Biological Sciences Honors Research program on a case-by-case basis. Students interested in applying to this program must have a minimum GPA of 3.600 and will have to complete the program in their second and third years. Students enrolled in the PharmD curriculum are eligible to receive Latin Honors based on their cumulative professional GPA on the following scale:

• 3.200-3.490: Cum Laude
• 3.500-3.740: Magna Cum Laude
• 3.750-4.000: Summa Cum Laude

The Rho Chi Honor Society is a national pharmacy honor society. On the basis of their academic standing (top 20% of their class), students may be invited to membership in their second professional (P2) year. A major purpose of Rho Chi is to promote high scholarship in pharmacy.

Students should consult with an academic advisor to determine how any transfer or exam credit might be utilized in meeting general education, prerequisite, or major requirements.
