Business Administration BS/MBA - Program Requirements

(HEGIS: 05.06 BUSINESS MGT & ADMINISTR, CIP: 52.0201 Business Administration and Management, General)

Completing the Business Administration BS/MBA Program

Academic Requirements

  • Students must successfully complete the seven business administration prerequisite courses to be permitted to take the required courses for the major and meet the stated minimum admission requirements (2.500 prerequisite GPA, 2.500 UB GPA, 2.500 overall GPA, and 60 earned credit hours). If a course is repeated, the School of Management will only look at the grade earned the second time, even if the grade is lower than the grade earned the first time. Students may not enroll in any major-related course (including prerequisites) for a third attempt.
  • After beginning the required courses for the major, students must maintain a minimum UB and Major GPA of 2.000 and successfully complete all degree requirements for degree conferral. It is important to note that GPA standards are much higher to be competitive for admission to the MBA program.
  • If admitted to the MBA program, all undergraduate requirements and 90 undergraduate credit hours must be completed at the end of junior year (with the exception of MGB 301, MGO 403, and the concentration which is completed at the MBA level).

Academic Advice

It is important you meet with your academic advisors on a regular basis as well as take advantage of professional development opportunities offered through the School of Management Undergraduate and Graduate Programs Office, the Undergraduate Learning and Community Center, the Career Resource Center, and student clubs and organizations.

While some students choose not to specialize, you may select one or more concentrations. If a concentration is selected, you will complete it with your graduate-level coursework.

Students can complete MGB 610 and 611, and MGO 640 as part of the MBA core rather than the corresponding undergraduate level courses (MGB 301 and MGO 403.) Students who apply and are admitted to the BS/MBA business administration program may need to take any undergraduate management core courses not completed by the end of the junior year in the summer after junior year before starting MBA courses in the fourth year. It may also be necessary for BS/MBA students to enroll in summer courses if behind on UB Curriculum.

Admission to the BS/MBA program is very competitive. Please contact the Graduate Programs Office in 203 Alfiero for information on the BS/MBA program, including admission standards.

Transfer Credit Policy

Courses from other institutions that have been previously evaluated in comparison to UB courses are listed on UB's course articulation TAURUS website. For courses not listed, students can submit a new request to TAURUS. Courses at the upper division (300 and 400 level) must be taken from other four-year AACSB Accredited Institutions.

Residency Requirement

Business Administration majors must complete a minimum of 24 credits of upper-division (300 and 400 level) School of Management courses at UB. Please remember to consult with your academic advisor about any plans to take courses outside of UB. Students are expected to complete all graduate level coursework for this program at the University at Buffalo.
