Becoming a Business Administration BS/Management Information Systems MS Student

The School of Management admits incoming freshmen directly to the major. For direct admission, prospective freshmen are required to select the combined BS/MS Management Information Systems program on the UB application.

At the undergraduate level, students must meet the minimum standards for the major. To continue seamlessly to the MS program, students must meet the following conditions:

  • the student is on track for four-year graduation,
  • at admission to UB (as an undergraduate), met the School of Management graduate admissions standards on tests of English language proficiency, and
  • have an overall, UB GPA, and a School of Management GPA of >=3.250 at the end of junior year.

If the standards are met, then the student will be waived of the necessity to submit a GMAT or a GRE score, and will be automatically continue seamlessly to the Master’s program in the fifth year. The Graduate Programs Office will continue to guide the student through the admissions process as required by The Graduate School at UB (minus the application fee) and provide advisement through completion of the MS degree.

Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank (where applicable), strength of the high school academic record and SAT or ACT scores, if applicable. UB supports SUNY’s decision to temporarily suspend SAT and ACT requirements for admissions. This temporary change of admissions eligibility requirements applies to the spring 2021, fall 2021, spring 2022, fall 2022, spring 2023, fall 2023 and spring 2024 cycles. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component).
  • Four years of social studies.
  • Three years of college-preparatory science.
  • Three years of a second language.
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics.

Freshman Admission to the Program

Freshmen are admitted directly to the Business Administration BS/MS program by selecting the appropriate major on the UB application. 

Important note: 

We encourage high school students interested in the accounting or business administration majors to apply early for admission to UB. Because of the quantitative nature of these majors, we recommend you complete pre-calculus and be calculus-ready before enrolling at UB.

Current UB Students Applying to the Program

If you are a current UB student in a non-management major and wish to add or change your major to business administration, submit a change of major request. Your request will be reviewed by the School of Management and you will receive an email with your admission decision and instructions for making an academic advisement appointment. Please see our admissions standards for more information. Internal and external transfer students may request an individual evaluation to determine qualification for this combined BS/MS program by contacting the Undergraduate Academic Programs Office.
