Academic Requirements

To remain in the business administration major and to be permitted to take restricted upper-level (300/400 level) School of Management courses, students must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of the seven management prerequisite courses with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the seven courses. If a course is repeated, the School of Management will only look at the grade earned the second time, even if the grade is lower than the grade earned the first time. Students may not enroll in any major-related course (including prerequisites) for a third attempt.
  • Minimum transfer, overall, and UB GPA of 2.5.
  • Junior standing (completion of 60 credits.)

Academic Advice

To graduate with a degree in Business Administration, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.0 in upper division (300/400 level) School of Management classes, as well as meet the University Degree Requirements. Students entering in the spring semester should be aware of possible course sequence obstacles that may necessitate summer school or waiting additional semesters to take specific courses.

Students need to pay particular attention to proper planning and completion of the UB Curriculum, the University’s new General Education Program. Additionally, students must successfully complete a minimum of 120 credit hours.

Transfer Credit Policy

The following foundation courses are prerequisites to upper level courses in the major and must be completed with a minimum GPA of 2.5: introductory psych, introduction to statistics for analytics, introduction to financial accounting, introduction to management accounting, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and mathematical analysis for management (business calculus/calculus I). The requirements for a transfer student to petition for course equivalencies for MGA 201 and MGA 202 is the completion of two semesters of accounting, including financial and managerial accounting.

SUNY Seamless Transfer is a SUNY-wide program intended to make transferring to UB and other SUNY Schools simple and efficient for SUNY students. SUNY has defined courses that SUNY students can take before transferring which will apply to the major at UB and ensure timely graduation. Information about the Transfer Path for this major can be found on the SUNY website.
