Completing the Chemistry BA Program

Academic Requirements

Minimum GPA of 2.000 overall.

Pre- or corequisites for admission are CHE 101/CHE 113-CHE 102/CHE 114 (CHE 101-CHE 102 prior to Fall 2019) or CHE 105-CHE 106 or CHE 107-CHE 108, and MTH 121-MTH 122 or MTH 141-MTH 142, or permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

Academic Advice

Students should apply for admission to the department as early as possible.

Students who follow the BA program cannot switch from the BA to the BS program until PHY 107-PHY 108-PHY 158 and MTH 141- MTH 142-MTH 241 are completed, or with permission of the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

Transfer Credit Policy

Residency Requirement

Transfer students must complete a minimum of 8 credit hours of UB Chemistry department courses to receive the BA degree.

MTH 121 Survey of Calculus and Its Applications I or MTH 141 College Calculus I
MTH 122 Survey of Calculus and Its Applications II or MTH 142 College Calculus II

CHE 314 Introduction to Analytical Chemistry

CHE 349 Physical Chemistry for Life Sciences*
PHY 101-PHY 102 and PHY 151-PHY 152 College Physics I-II w/lab or PHY 107 and PHY 108/PHY 158 General Physics I-II w/lab

A minimum of four credit hours of intermediate laboratory from the following:

  • CHE 301 Intermediate Organic Chemistry
  • CHE 322 Inorganic Chemistry II
  • CHE 329 Physical Chemistry Laboratory I
  • CHE 330 Physical Chemistry Laboratory II
  • CHE 350 Physical Chemistry for Life Sciences Laboratory
