Experiential Learning

The Environmental Studies Program is focused upon experiential learning through both internship and fieldwork requirements. Internships, usually experienced in the senior year, involved placements with governmental agencies, non-profits, and local businesses. Although only one three-credit experience is required, many of our majors will participate in multiple internships in order to broaden their experiences and professional contacts. Fieldwork requirements or opportunities include a wide range of courses such as Ecology Labs, Field Ecology, Forest Ecology and others. The department also promotes a series of ecology expeditions to unique environments throughout the country that have included trips to the Florida Everglades, Adirondack Mountains of New York, and Yellowstone National Park.

Study Abroad

The Department of Environment and Sustainability encourages students in any of our majors to take part in a study abroad experience. Advisors in the program will work with students to review study abroad courses for possible use in the major.
