Academic Requirements

Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.330 in the major. All courses taken by a student that are included in a student's chosen curriculum within the major will be used in calculation of the major GPA. For example, if a curriculum requires a student to select two courses from a particular section and the student completes three courses from that section, all three courses would be used to calculate a student's major GPA.

Academic Advice

The EVS program is very proud of our ability to meet individually with you as you need counsel. Each of our students receive a 30 minute time slot (or more) to review every detail of their academic requirements. Advisors know each of the students individually, and take pride in assisting in their successes. Students considering any EVS major or minor can obtain advice by scheduling an appointment by contacting our department at 716-645-6777 or by email.

The department often encourages students to pursue a minor or complete both tracks in the program.

Transfer Credit Policy

All transfer courses officially articulated to UB courses used in the EVS/Environmental Studies major will be accepted to meet major requirements.

Students should consult with a departmental advisor to determine how any non-articulated transfer courses or exam credit may be utilized in meeting general education, prerequisite, or major requirements.

For students not continuously registered at UB or who are newly admitted transfer students, courses taken more than 10 years prior to the date of admission or readmission to the University may constitute no more than 20% of a major program in the Environment and Sustainability Degree Programs.

Residency Requirement

At least 50 percent of coursework toward the major must be completed at UB.
