Experiential Learning

The program in Environmental Studies requires practical fieldwork through an internship experience. The course is usually taken in the senior year. Students have interned at governmental and non-governmental organizations such as the U.S. Attorney General’s office, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the Buffalo Zoo, the Buffalo Botanical Gardens and the Army Corps of Engineers.

Study Abroad

The Department of Environment and Sustainability encourages students in any of our majors to take part in a study abroad experience. Advisors in the program will work with students to review study abroad courses for possible use in the major.

Honors and Awards

Departmental Honors

A student in the Environmental Studies major is eligible for departmental honors based on her/his University at Buffalo grade point average. Honors levels are Distinction with a GPA of 3.250 to 3.490, High Distinction with a GPA of 3.500 to 3.740 and Highest Distinction with a GPA of 3.750 or higher. A minimum of 50% of credits for the major must be completed at UB to be eligible for departmental honors.
