Exercise Science BS - Pre-Physical Therapy Concentration - Academic Experience

(HEGIS: 08.35 PHYSICAL ED METHODOLOGY, CIP: 26.0908 Exercise Physiology)

Academic Opportunities

Students in the School of Public Health and Health Professions have numerous opportunities to engage in research, experiential learning programs, student clubs and organizations, and extracurricular activities to complement and enhance their educational experience.

Experiential Learning

Practicums and independent studies are highly recommended and internships are required. Students must complete all course work, including electives and UB Curriculum requirements, prior to the internship. Independent studies, practicums, and internships enable students to concentrate in a specific area of interest, to work alongside faculty on research projects, and to gain valuable work experience. Many students find employment as a direct result of the internship experience.

Study Abroad

Students are encouraged to participate in the university’s study abroad programs

Extracurricular Activities

The Exercise Science Club: for information, contact the department at 716-829-2941.

See the UB Student Association webpage for additional information on available extracurricular activities.

Honors and Awards

An Outstanding Senior award is granted annually to a senior who demonstrates exemplary qualities of leadership, service, and scholarship. Students in the ES program are encouraged to apply for external honors and awards and are recognized for their academic, service, and leadership achievements.

Departmental Honors

The department award of program distinction is based on the UB GPA for the program (major GPA). A minimum of 50% of credits for the major program must be completed at UB. The department requires a minimum of 3.200 for “with distinction”; 3.500 for “with high distinction”; and 3.750 for “with highest distinction.”
