Transfer Credit Policy

Prospective majors who have taken geography courses at another school that they believe are equivalent to courses offered by this department should contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies to petition for acceptance of transfer geography credits.

SUNY Seamless Transfer is a SUNY-wide program intended to make transferring to UB and other SUNY Schools simple and efficient for SUNY students. SUNY has defined courses that SUNY students can take before transferring which will apply to the major at UB and ensure timely graduation.

Students are encouraged to contact their academic advisor or department to discuss how their coursework will apply to their degree.

Prerequisite Courses

Any two Geography courses.

Required Courses

GEO 101 Earth Systems Science I
GEO 102 Introduction to Human Geography or GEO 103 Global Economic Geographies
GEO 120 Maps: Earth from Above
GEO 211 Univariate Statistics in Geography (or another departmentally approved statistics course)*
Additional Geography electives to bring the total credits in the major to 37, with at least 24 credits at the 300/400 level.

*Statistics Substitution (GEO 211): If you have already completed one of the following Stats courses, you will not need GEO 211. Approved substitutions: PSC 408, PSY 207, SOC 294, STA 119, ECO 480. However, students who take a course outside Geography that is equivalent to GEO 211 must complete an additional Geography elective to fulfill the requirement of 37 Geography credit hours.
