Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank (where applicable), SAT or ACT scores and strength of the high school academic record. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered. For the 2018 admitted freshman class, UB reported an average ACT score of 25-30 and an average SAT score of 1190-1350. The average GPA ranged from 91-96.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component).
  • Four years of social studies.
  • Three years of college-preparatory science.
  • Three years of a second language.
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics.

Freshman Admission to the Program

Admission to the BS in Information Technology and Management is limited and highly competitive. You should first apply to UB and indicate an interest in business administration. The School of Management will invite new freshman to apply to the BS in Information and Technology Management major. All applicants will be reviewed by the admissions committee, and the top 50 will be offered admission.

In the first two years, you will complete the UB Curriculum requirements (general education courses) and the lower-division courses for the major. Academic performance in freshman and sophomore major courses and overall GPA are the main criteria to continue to the upper-division major requirements.

We encourage high school students interested in the Information Technology and Management to apply early for admission to UB. We recommend you complete pre-calculus and be calculus-ready before enrolling at UB.

Transfer Admission to the Program

For students interested in transferring to UB, the first step is to gain admission to the university. Transfer students interested in the Information Technology and Management major are encouraged to apply early due to the competitive limited enrollment nature of the program. Transfer students must have a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to apply to this major on a space availability basis. Admission to this major occurs only for fall semesters. Students entering UB in a spring term should apply to the Business Administration and may apply to change to the BS IT & M major if space permits. Transfer students may request additional information about the program by emailing the Undergraduate Programs Office. Transfer students not admitted to this major may want to consider requesting a review for admission to our BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems.

Current UB Students Applying to the Program
