Becoming an Information Technology and Management BS Student

Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank (where applicable), strength of the high school academic record and SAT or ACT scores, if applicable. UB supports SUNY’s decision to temporarily suspend SAT and ACT requirements for admissions. This temporary change of admissions eligibility requirements applies to the spring 2021, fall 2021, spring 2022, fall 2022, spring 2023, fall 2023 and spring 2024 cycles. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component).
  • Four years of social studies.
  • Three years of college-preparatory science.
  • Three years of a second language.
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics.

Freshman Admission to the Program

Admission to the BS in Information Technology and Management is limited and highly competitive. To be considered, select the appropriate major on the UB application. All applicants will be reviewed by the admissions committee, and the top 50 will be offered admission. This is a fall admission major only.

Important note:

Due to the competitive nature of this major, we encourage high school students interested in the Information Technology and Management to apply early for admission to UB. We recommend you complete pre-calculus and be calculus-ready before enrolling at UB.

Transfer Admission to the Program

Transfer students must first gain admission to the university. After gaining admission to UB, new incoming transfer students who select Business Administration will be asked to submit a supplemental application by the School of Management. Students must meet the minimum standards to be considered. Internal and external transfer students may request an individual evaluation to determine qualification for this combined BS/MS program by contacting the Undergraduate Academic Programs Office.

Current UB Students Applying to the Program

Current UB students who did not apply to the School of Management at entry to UB and who have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.000 and wish to apply to the BS in Information Technology and Management major will be considered for admission on a space availability basis. For addition information about how to apply to this major, students may email the Undergraduate Programs Office for additional information. This is a fall admission major only, therefore interested students must inquire during the prior spring semester about how to apply.
