The Jewish Studies Internship Program provides a mechanism for highly motivated students of all levels to earn 3 academic credits by combining internship experience with educational knowledge of the Jewish tradition. The following community organizations are looking for UB students to work as interns: Buffalo Jewish Community Relations Council, Hillel of Buffalo, Jewish Community Center, Jewish Journal of Western New York and the Jewish Repertory Theatre of Western NY. To apply for one or more of these internships, email your CV and a letter of application explaining your interest and qualifications for the internship to the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
Our students may study abroad in Israel, The Middle East, Europe, in any region with Jewish heritage or at any University with Jewish Studies coursework available.
We host several lectures and academic conferences per year, at which our students may meet and engage the foremost scholars in the field. Our faculty deliver community lectures and participate in Lunch and Learn programming, and we host department receptions at least once per term.
Majors and Minors in the department are eligible to compete for university-wide and nationwide scholarships, fellowships, and research stipends. Students are encouraged to work with the professors in the department on a research project to create a record making the students more competitive for such Honors and Awards. Faculty may nominate students for the university awards for undergraduates.
We offer several merit-based awards, including the Harold J. and Arlyne G. Levy Award in Jewish Studies, Irving M. and Marilyn C. Shuman Scholarship, and the Ruth and Isadore Bob Endowed Fellowship for graduate students.
