Media Study BA Critical Studies Concentration / Arts Management MA - Academic Experience

There are a possibilities for interested undergraduate students to work with individual Media Study faculty members on a variety of topics of study.

In the Arts Management Program, students regularly interact with policy makers, artists, and arts managers through guest lectures (in our Why Manage the Arts Speaker Series and others), site visits, and intensive study opportunities both domestically and abroad.

Department of Media Study encourages student participation in internship programs at production studios, local TV studios, and media access centers in exchange for academic credit.

In the MA portion of this degree track, students lead projects at arts and cultural institutions in two experiential learning courses. In addition, the Program has established relationships with a number of arts and cultural institutions in Buffalo and on campus that provide paid internships and jobs for students while undertaking their course of study.

Transfer credits for course work performed in media study at foreign universities can be arranged on an individual basis. We currently have programs at the University of Bremen in Germany, Bauhaus Weimar and at Kent University in England.

The Arts Management Program offers an intensive 10-day study program each summer. The location changes each year, but is always built on active experiences and the relevant critical theory needed in order to develop students into effective arts managers in today's global business landscape. Students interact with artists, scholars, policy makers, and arts managers in intimate seminars and ultimately present project work at the conclusion of the study program. Past study abroad experiences include: Costa Rica, Berlin, Paris, Vienna, Singapore, and Stockholm among others.

Levy-King-White Scholarships: Presented for academic achievement and demonstrated financial need.
