Students are strongly encouraged to study in Spanish-speaking countries, ideally for an academic year or a semester. Study abroad programs sponsored by SUNY campuses, such as UB’s summer program in Salamanca, programs elsewhere in Spain, or others in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, or Puerto Rico, are open to UB Spanish students. Credits earned on those programs can transfer to UB. Detailed information is available on the Study Abroad website. Majors and minors may complete up to half their required Spanish courses, and can satisfy general education requirements as well, via approved study abroad programs. The Department requires a mandatory advisement session with a Spanish faculty adviser to determine what courses will count toward the major, as well as a follow-up advisement session after the student returns. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Department offers scholarships to help students finance their study abroad.
