Becoming a Speech and Hearing Science BA/Early Childhood Education EdM Student

Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Several checks are in place to monitor student progression through this program. Procedures begin with the initial screening upon application to the University for the BA degree. Students can progress to the graduate portion of the program so long as they also maintain good academic standing and carry a minimum GPA of 3.000 (B average).

In addition, students must indicate their desire to matriculate into the EdM (Teacher Preparation) portion of the program by March 1 of their junior year. This intention will trigger a review by the EdM program faculty to ensure the student has maintained a sufficient GPA and has completed appropriate coursework. At this time, students in this program are also expected to take the GRE (Graduate Record Examination), and complete an interview with the Office of Educator Preparation.

Finally, before entry into student teaching (field experience), students must have successfully completed all education and graduate level coursework with a B- or better.

Freshman Admission to the Program

Incoming fall freshmen entering UB from high school are admitted to the combined BA/EdM program via the application for undergraduate admission. Students do not apply separately to graduate study. For more information see the UB Teach website.
