Each Upper-division (junior and senior level) cohort consists of 72 admitted students. Clinical practicum for this program includes 700 clinical and laboratory hours, many of which are offered in innovative Dedicated Education Units (DEU), a model for clinical instruction that provides an optimal teaching/learning environment for students, faculty and clinicians. Students are integrated into nursing practice in the clinical setting working collaboratively with interdisciplinary health care team members to provide patient-centered, evidence based health care. Practicum experiences are enhanced through interprofessional simulated learning activities that provide a safe environment to develop critical thinking in urgent and non-urgent patient care situations.
The programs culminates in a three week immersion precepted practicum in Western New York and or New York City, where students are immersed in a one-on-one experience with a nurse in a clinical setting.
