Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Admission to UB is highly competitive. For the 2017 admitted freshman class, UB reported an average ACT score of 25-30 and an average SAT (CR+M) score of 1100-1300. Additionally, 92 percent* of admitted students are in the top 50 percent of their class.

(*Based on the percentage of students who reported a rank).

Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank, SAT (critical reading and math) or ACT scores, and strength of the high school academic record. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component)
  • Four years of social studies
  • Three years of college-preparatory science
  • Three years of a second language
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics

Freshman Admission to the Program

Not applicable.

Transfer Admission to the Program

Administrative staff will work closely with transfer students to the Education Leadership and Policy for Equity minor assist them in accessing and completing the minor.

Current UB Students Applying to the Program

Applicants must be matriculated students at the University at Buffalo (UB) in good academic standing who have a minimum overall grade point average of 2.5. Students must have completed at least 30 credit hours at the time of application, at least 12 of which must be from UB. Students who meet these requirements are more likely to achieve success, as they will have the requisite academic preparation and a more developed sense of career direction or interests to be able to make decisions about pursuing this minor.
