Business Administration BS/MS Finance - Applying to the Program

Becoming a Business Administration BS/MS Finance Student

The School of Management admits freshmen directly to the major so interested business administration majors simply need to indicate their interest in the combined BS/MS program by contacting the Undergraduate Academic Programs Office. At the undergraduate level, students must meet the criteria to continue in the major to the junior year. This information can be found in under the Business Administration BS – Financial Analysis Concentration in the UB Undergraduate Catalog. To continue seamlessly to the MS program, students must meet the following conditions:

  • the student is on track for four-year graduation,
  • at admission to UB (as an undergraduate), met the School of Management graduate admissions standards on tests of English language proficiency, and
  • have an overall UB GPA and a School of Management GPA of >=3.25 at the end of junior year.

If the standards are met, then the student will be waived of the necessity to submit a GMAT or a GRE score, and will be automatically continue seamlessly to the Master’s program in the fifth year. The Graduate Programs Office will continue to guide the student through the admissions process as required by The Graduate School at UB (minus the application fee) and provide advisement through completion of the MS degree.

Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank (where applicable), SAT or ACT scores and strength of the high school academic record. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered. For the 2018 admitted freshman class, UB reported an average ACT score of 25-30 and an average SAT score of 1190-1350. The average GPA ranged from 91-96.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component).
  • Four years of social studies.
  • Three years of college-preparatory science.
  • Three years of a second language.
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics.
