Business Administration BS/MS Finance - Academic Experience

(HEGIS: 05.06 BUSINESS MGT & ADMINISTR, CIP: 52.0201 Business Administration and Management, General)

Academic Opportunities

From a real-money investment group, to supervised research on topics ranging from corporate financial policy to issues of investments, to projects on cutting-edge portfolio management and theory, you will be deeply engaged in a vibrant and welcoming community. Among the many integrated opportunities available to enhance learning is the Terese Kelly Investment Group open to both undergraduate and graduate students. This isn’t practice – the money is real and the investors are serious. You will pitch a company to an investment group that will decide whether to buy shares for their portfolio.

The Finance Academy, a unique feature at the graduate-level, focuses on your personal and professional development, helping you to develop competencies like teamwork, communications and leadership, as well as providing you access to experienced finance executives for advice, mentoring and best practices.

Experiential Learning

School of Management students, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, participate in internship and experiential learning opportunities. Our exclusive recruitment system, BizLink, is home to internship postings for our students. Every posting is pre-screened to ensure they are related to the curriculum and meaningful in nature. Students are also encouraged to participate in the Career Passport Program for additional engagement with employers and alumni. Programs such as Case Competitions and the Management Volunteer Program provide students with comprehensive and coordinated opportunities for career development, emphasizing interpersonal and social skills required for success in business. These types of experiences are often sought after by employers in the recruitment process and are expected content on student resumes.

Study Abroad

In an evolving global economy, there is no question that our best prepared students will bring an international perspective with them when they enter the job market. Not only will the experience provide valuable insight from a career perspective, but study abroad is a personally transformative experience. Whether you choose to participate in our School of Management faculty led study trips or from the vast menu of options through the UB Study Abroad Program, you are sure to find study abroad a life-changing experience. Students may participate in study trips at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Extracurricular Activities

Where passion and action meet, there are more than 20 School of Management clubs and associations open to our undergraduate and graduate students. Included in these are several national organizations. For more information, see our Student Clubs Directory for club websites and contact information.

See the UB Student Association for additional opportunities to become involved in the UB community.

Honors and Awards

See the School of Management Honors Program for Departmental Honors. Additionally, the top 10% of the undergraduate graduating and the top 20% of the graduate graduating classes are invited by Beta Gamma Sigma to join their premier honor society recognizing business excellence.

There are additional departmental honors and awards that are presented at the annual commencement ceremony.
