Academic Opportunities

Internships and Clinical Rotations

Standard internships are not part of the undergraduate experience. All professional (PharmD students) must engage in clinical rotations through the profession's Experiential Education requirements: Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE). The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences maintains both academic and research experiences with a variety of local, regional, national and international sites.

Postgraduate Opportunities

Postgraduate residencies and fellowships are available through formalized partnerships with pharmacy practice and research training programs throughout the nation.

Experiential Learning

PharmD students are involved in many opportunities for professional and personal growth, including community wellness clinics and poison prevention education programs. Departmental Honors

Academic Excellence in Chemistry—Given annually to graduating seniors with the following GPA levels:

  • Distinction—3.20-3.499
  • High Distinction—3.50-3.749
  • Highest Distinction—3.75-4.00

Students enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum are eligible to receive Latin Honors based on their cumulative professional GPA on the following scale:

Average (based on 4.0 = A)

  • 3.20-3.49: Cum Laude
  • 3.50-3.74: Magna Cum Laude
  • 3.75-4.00: Summa Cum Laude

The Rho Chi Honor Society is a national pharmacy honor society. On the basis of their academic standing (top 20% of their class), students may be invited to membership in their second professional (P2) year. A major purpose of Rho Chi is to promote high scholarship in pharmacy.
