Becoming a Jewish Studies Minor Student

Successful completion of the prerequisite courses with the required minimum grades or higher.

Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank (where applicable), SAT or ACT scores and strength of the high school academic record. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered. For the 2018 admitted freshman class, UB reported an average ACT score of 25-30 and an average SAT score of 1190-1350. The average GPA ranged from 91-96.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component).
  • Four years of social studies.
  • Three years of college-preparatory science.
  • Three years of a second language.
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics.

Freshman Admission to the Program

We welcome students to join us in their first year.

Successful completion of the prerequisite courses with the required minimum grades or higher is required for admissions into the program. Prerequisites include:

  • Minimum grade of C+ in JDS 103 Introduction to Judaism
  • Two other courses in Jewish Studies (may include Hebrew) with a grade of C or better

Acceptance Criteria: Minimum GPA of 2.0

Suggested Introductory Courses

We suggest JDS 103: Introduction to Judaism, JDS 210: Introduction to the Old Testament, JDS 253: Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Ethics, any UB Seminar designated JDS 199, and RSP 213: Introduction to World Religions
