Becoming a Law BA Student

Current UB students not enrolled in the Law BA are eligible for admission if they meet the following criteria: (1) minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, both overall and at UB; (2) completion of LAW 101 and either LAW 201 or LAW 202, with a minimum average GPA of 2.5 in those courses. Completion of the minor requires a 2.0 overall and in each of the remaining required courses. Students wishing to apply for the Law BA, even if they have not completed the prerequisites, should complete the undergraduate studies application.

Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank (where applicable), SAT or ACT scores and strength of the high school academic record. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered. For the 2018 admitted freshman class, UB reported an average ACT score of 25-30 and an average SAT score of 1190-1350. The average GPA ranged from 91-96.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component).
  • Four years of social studies.
  • Three years of college-preparatory science.
  • Three years of a second language.
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics.
