Becoming a Neuroscience BS Student

Becoming a University at Buffalo Student

Admission to UB is based on a holistic review. We consider high school average, class rank (where applicable), SAT or ACT scores and strength of the high school academic record. A personal essay, recommendations, documented creative talent, demonstrated leadership, community service and special circumstances are also considered. For the 2018 admitted freshman class, UB reported an average ACT score of 25-30 and an average SAT score of 1190-1350. The average GPA ranged from 91-96.

The following is not required for admission, but is suggested as adequate preparation for university-level coursework:

  • Four years of English (with a substantial writing component).
  • Four years of social studies.
  • Three years of college-preparatory science.
  • Three years of a second language.
  • Three years of college-preparatory mathematics.

Freshman Admission to the Program

Freshman students are admitted directly to the neuroscience program upon their acceptance to the University. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA in all major courses and a University GPA of 2.5 to remain in the program.

Transfer Admission to the Program

Transfer students will be evaluated on their completed major coursework. Transfer students must still obtain a 2.5 major GPA in completed coursework in order to remain in the neuroscience major. Students are expected to work closely with their advisor to be sure they are on track for acceptance into the major and a timely graduation.

Current UB Students Applying to the Program

If you are a current UB student and wish to add or change your major to Neuroscience, submit a change of major request. Your request will be reviewed and you will receive an email with your admission decision and instructions for making an academic advisement appointment. Please review admissions requirements and deadlines.
