The Department of Computer Science and Engineering in conjunction with the School of Management offers a five-year program leading to both a BS in Computer Science degree and an MBA degree. This program reduces by one year the usual pattern of a four-year undergraduate degree and a two-year MBA program. The CS BS/MBA program at UB provides a solid foundation in both computer science and business administration. From the computer science side, students will learn about software development, computer science theory, and computer systems. Students will have the flexibility to specialize in areas such as machine learning, robotics, databases, data mining, distributed systems, networking, data intensive computing, and computer architecture. From the business administration side, students will learn about accounting and financial analysis, marketing, business strategies, business economics, etc.
The Computer Science BS program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Committee of ABET.
The curriculum is designed to meet several educational objectives. These program education objectives (PEOs) are broad statements that describe the expected accomplishments of graduates within a few years after graduation. Specific PEOs are that graduates will:
- work productively as Computer Scientists, including in leadership and supportive roles on diverse teams,
- communicate effectively,
- adapt to and shape a rapidly evolving computing landscape,
- recognize and address societal needs in their professional endeavors, and
- practice their profession with high regard to legal and ethical responsibilities.
After admission into the Computer Science and Engineering Department and enrollment in appropriate prerequisite courses, the student will apply directly to the School of Management during their junior year to be admitted to the MBA Program.
