Human Factors and Ergonomics Engineering Minor - Program Requirements

(HEGIS: , CIP: 14.3501 Industrial Engineering)

Completing the Human Factors and Ergonomics Engineering Minor Program

Academic Requirements

Students must be in good academic standing. Minimum GPA for minor completion is 2.000 in minor courses.

Minors are awarded in conjunction with a major. All university degree requirements must be met upon completion.

Academic Advice

Students should consult with an academic advisor to determine how to best incorporate a minor within their major program of study.

Prerequisite Courses

There are no specific course prerequisites for admission but note that some of the courses have their own specific prerequisites and therefore might not be available to all students in the minor.

Required Courses

The curriculum includes six courses related to human factors and ergonomics, statistical methods, and application areas, across multiple departments.

Note that five of the six courses are upper division, as courses specific to this area are typically taught at the 300 and 400 level.

At least three courses applied for the minor cannot be used to fulfill any other program requirements (UB Curriculum, major, or other minor). Also, some of the courses have their own specific pre-requisites and therefore might not be available to all students in the minor.

Lower Division Course (one required):

  • PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology
  • ARC 211 American Diversity and Design
  • BE 201 Principles of Biomedical Engineering
  • EAS 207 Statics
  • ES 200 Introduction to Exercise Science
  • CSE 115 Introduction to Computer Science for Majors 1
  • EAS 230 Engineering Computations or EAS 240 Programming for Engineers

Required Courses:
IE 306 Statistics for Engineers (or similar course covering statistical inference with approval of the minor advisor, e.g. STA 119, CIE 308)
IE 323 Introduction to Ergonomics
IE 435 Human-Computer Interaction
IE 436 Work Physiology

Elective Courses (choose one):

(Other upper division courses related to human factors/ergonomics may be accepted, subject to the approval of the minor advisor.)
