Completing the Linguistics BA - Language, Society, and Communication Concentration Program

Academic Requirements

Minimum GPA of 2.000 overall.
Minimum GPA of 2.500 in the prerequisite courses.

Transfer Credit Policy

Due to the fact that relatively few students arrive at UB having taken a significant number of linguistics courses, the Department of Linguistics does not have specific transfer credit policies. The possibility of transfer credits can be discussed on a case-by-case basis with the Director of Undergraduate Studies.

LIN 301 Structure of English: The Sound System
LIN 302 Structure of English: Grammar and Lexicon
Four additional LIN courses with sociolinguistics, communication, or cultural content from the following list:

Four LIN electives (may apply one course from the following list):

  • CHI 410 Introduction to Chinese Linguistics
  • JPN 411 Introduction to Japanese Linguisitics
  • JPN 421 Japanese Language and Culture
  • KOR 411 Introduction to Korean Linguistics
  • KOR 421 Korean Language and Culture

UB Seminar courses cannot count towards major requirements.
