(HEGIS: 49.03 HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCI, CIP: 45.0101 Social Sciences, General)

Experiential Learning

The SSC/Health and Human Services – Community Mental Health curriculum requires students to complete two semesters of internship. This experience provides students the opportunity to put into practice the things they have learned in the classroom, to develop a professional demeanor and to learn firsthand about the responsibilities and ethics that are required of professionals in the field. Students intern with mental health and human services agencies, hospitals, and government agencies.

Study Abroad

The Social Sciences Interdisciplinary Degree Programs encourage students in any of our five majors to take part in a study abroad experience. Advisors in the program will work with students to review study abroad courses for possible use in the major.

Departmental Honors

A student in the SSC/Health and Human Services – Community Mental Health major is eligible for departmental honors based on her/his major grade point average. All courses taken by a student that are included in a student's chosen curriculum within the major will be used in calculation of the major GPA. For example, if a curriculum requires a student to select two courses from a particular section and the student completes three courses from that section, all three courses would be used to calculate a student's major GPA. Honors levels are Distinction with a GPA of 3.250 to 3.490, High Distinction with a GPA of 3.500 to 3.740 and Highest Distinction with a GPA of 3.750 or higher. A minimum of 50% of credits for the major must be completed at UB to be eligible for departmental honors.
