(HEGIS: 49.03 HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCI, CIP: 45.0101 Social Sciences, General)

Experiential Learning

The SSC/Legal Studies major provides students the opportunity to complete an internship course to meet one of the major requirements. This experience allows students to experience in practice what they have studied in the classroom. The course is usually taken in the senior year. In past semesters students have interned with the WNY Office of the ACLU, the International Institute, the WNY Regional Office of Senator Chuck Schumer and various local law offices.

Study Abroad

The Social Sciences Interdisciplinary Degree Programs encourage students in any of our five majors to take part in a study abroad experience. Advisors in the program will work with students to review study abroad courses for possible use in the major.

Honors and Awards

Departmental Honors

A student in the SSC/Legal Studies major is eligible for departmental honors based on her/his major grade point average. All courses taken by a student that are included in a student's chosen curriculum within the major will be used in calculation of the major GPA. For example, if a curriculum requires a student to select two courses from a particular section and the student completes three courses from that section, all three courses would be used to calculate a student's major GPA. Honors levels are Distinction with a GPA of 3.250 to 3.490, High Distinction with a GPA of 3.500 to 3.740 and Highest Distinction with a GPA of 3.750 or higher. A minimum of 50% of credits for the major must be completed at UB to be eligible for department honors.
