Environmental justice is both a social movement and an area of research based around the idea that all people have the right to equal environmental protection, regardless of race, class, or gender: that everyone is entitled to a sustainable world. Despite this ideal, environmental hazards are unequally distributed throughout the US and the world. This course will explore the power dynamics and social structures that create environmental inequality, both domestically and globally. This course will help you understand where the concepts of environmental justice and environmental racism originate, and how they are used in policy and advocacy around the world.
