HIS 500SEM Doing History

This course explores the many ways that people understand, encounter, and experience history in their daily lives and the challenges these present for professional historians and historical institutions. From textbooks to television, representations of the past abound in classrooms and museums, at memorials and historic sites, and on movie and computer screens. Students in HIS 500 will consider how historical knowledge gets distilled and repackaged for these various audiences and sample different ways of doing public history.
