PHM 704LEC Pediatrics and Geriatrics Pharmacotherapeutics

Lecture

Upon completion of this course students should be able to advance the level of clinical patient management through the understanding and utilization of pharmacotherapeutic principles. Pharmacotherapeutics is the foundation for all drug related problems and clinical decision making that occurs with day to day patient care. PHM 704 integrates Pathophysiology, Medicinal Chemistry, Drug Disposition, Pharmacology and Patient Assessment as it specifically relates to special populations (e.g. pediatric patients and geriatric patients), in order to optimize therapeutic outcomes. The course advances the student's knowledge of the most commonly seen disease processes and how they are treated with drug therapy in pediatric and geriatric patients. The course also prepares students to make clinical decisions related to patient care and in turn improve patient care outcomes.
