This course prepares the physical therapy student for their role as an autonomous member of the health care team. To meet this goal, students will gain knowledge in interprofessional collaborative care, professional behaviors, peer mentoring and peer assessment, cultural competency, workplace safety, appropriate use of social media in professional practice, and strategies to facilitate employment as a physical therapist. This course assesses the student¿s current proficiency in clinical practice using an integrated standardized patient examination (ISPE). The main focus of this course is the effective management of patients using an interprofessional approach founded on the four core competencies of interprofessional collaborative practice ¿ ethics and values, roles and responsibilities, teams and teamwork, and communication. Interprofessional competency coupled with clinical proficiency will allow the student to enter the work force ready to practice as an effective member of the health care team and prepared to develop patient-centered plans of care for patients across the lifespan.
